| Watermark.com, November 1, 2000 HOO-GAY FOR HOLLYWOOD! Entertainment Weekly readers across the country were treated to a rare and wonderful surprise last week when the glossy, flashy, and sometimes-trashy magazine featured a cover story called "Gay Hollywood 2000: A Special Report." Outing everyone from David Letterman's co-exec producer to the former lead singer of Judas Priest, EW did an exhaustive job detailing the new wave of gay acceptance in the entertainment industry. (They summed it up with the brutally honest statement, "There you have it -- the real reason for the increasing number of gay shows on TV: They're starting to make money.") And during the same week, Hollywood lesbians announced the formation of POWER UP, a networking organization for lesbians in the entertainment industry founded by producer-writer Stacy Codikow (Under the Hula Moon), live event and commercial producer Amy Shomer, and publicist-producer K. Pearson Brown (On the Scene Productions). Looks like press-seeker Anne Heche quit our club a few weeks too early. |
